About stone sourcing for SunLit
My small haul from this year's gem show:
My mission is to contribute beauty to this world.
But sometimes things that look pretty have a not-so-pretty backstory. The materials used to make jewelry are extracted from the earth by humans and machines. There are better and worse ways to do this, and I'm making it my job to understand the difference and to select only the best materials for SunLit jewels.
Since SunLit's launch, I have exclusively cast in certified recycled gold. I am now working to be much more selective in the gemstones I purchase. I'm nurturing the trusted relationships I have with the three stone dealers I've been working with for decades, and I'm developing new relationships with a handful of vendors who transparently share all the details about their mining and cutting. The Responsible Jewellery Council is my go-to resource for vetting new partners and understanding the environmental and human rights impact of my work.
I am excited about moving forward with considered choices. Doing more with less. Making things beautifully from the inside out.
Slowly. Mindfully. Lovingly.
